Distillation is a process used widely in the laboratory or in wider working environments for separating or purifying liquids or liquid mixtures based on the different boiling points of individual components.
Distillation Applications:
• Separation and purification of miscible liquid mixtures in organic chemistry
• Drying of solid residues and/or solvent removal
• Fractional distillation of liquids from polymers and petroleum products
• Removal of particulates or other solid contaminants
• As part of a water purification system for production of distilled water for laboratory use
• Specialist steam distillation-based applications such as Kjeldahl analysis of nitrogen and proteins in food, beverage, or environmental samples
What Types of Distillation Equipment Are Available?
Conventional distillation apparatus, typically comprising individual, jointed borosilicate glassware components assembled by the user (depending upon the application), using appropriate clamps, stands, and supports. Most conventional distillation assemblies combine a round-bottomed distilling flask to contain and heat the liquid(s) that require purification, fitted with a stoppered or jointed neck to which is attached a downward-sloping, inclined side-arm for connection to a condensing unit to cool the heated vapors back down to their liquid state. Heating mantles are the preferred heat source for improved temperature control. These conventional distillation units are also available supplied complete and ready-assembled for added convenience and ease of use.
Specialized automated distillation equipment, notably units designed for the determination of volatile acidity and alcoholic strength by volume in wines, musts, and alcoholic beverages, and units designed for Kjeldahl nitrogen or protein determinations.

250mL borosilicate glass jacketed distilling receiver with 24/40 joint has vacuum manifold for removal of the sample during operation, without disturbing the system. Manifold stopcocks are 4mm bore, and receiver stopcock is 3mm bore. Condenser hose connections are size E, for use with 9.5mm (3/8) or 11.1mm (7/16) I.D. tubing. Manifold has 10mm O.D. olive-style connections.
World Precision Instrument Weitlaner Retractor, Self-Retaining, 14cm, 3x4 Blunt Prongs
A Weitlaner Retractor is a self-retaining, handheld surgical instrument used to hold soft tissues apart during surgical procedures to give the surgeon access to the site. The retractor is self-retaining, meaning it remains in place once it is positioned, freeing your hands. The Weitlaner Retractor has two parallel blades with prongs, each with blunt or sharp, curved, and slightly tapered ends. The retractor has a ratchet locking mechanism to secure the blades with the desired spread. This mechanism enables easy adjustment of the retraction angle and provides stability during the procedure. The ring handles give you a firm, comfortable grip. These Weitlaner Retractors have 3 x 4 prong configuration, with 3 prongs on one blade and 4 on the other. They are 14 cm (5.5") long and can have a spread of 4 or 4.5 cm. They are manufactured from surgical grade stainless steel or premium German steel, both of which are autoclavable.
